Nancy Greene
Student of life, mother, wife and friend Nancy Greene was born on a snowy February day in Westerly Rhode Island. As a child, Nancy was fascinated by people of different cultures and was happiest when making new friends and spending time in nature. This interest in people served to guide many of her life choices. Mother of four children and now grandmother of seven, her daughters were dragged off to protests and community events from the time they could walk. When her children reached high school age, she opened a bookstore and coffee shop with partner Pat McElreath in their home town of New London Connecticut and created a safe space for marginalized youth as well as opportunities for networking among members of the community. Her passion and delight for connecting with people and learning their stories earned her shop a reputation as a warm, safe and welcoming space. Nancy was a girl scout leader and volunteered with several AIDS support organizations to offer energy healing work and meal deliveries to those living with AIDS during the early days of that epidemic. Years later, a solo cross country camping trip delivered her to New Mexico and eventually Arizona. Nancy was delighted to land a position at the UA with Arizona Student Media as a business manager soon after arriving. It was a perfect culmination to a career that centered around an interest in and love for young people and supporting community. She is forever grateful for this experience.
