Barbara Alice Reed Krider
Barb Krider was born and raised by Harold T. and Mae V. Reed in South Milwaukee, WI. She graduated from Carleton College in 1963, attended Stanford University's Master of Teaching program, and earned a M.Ed. from the University of Arizona in 1969. She was a lover of nature, raspberries, and all fine arts, including visual, performing and textile, but particularly musical and literary. Barb was committed to Southern Arizona, social justice, child development and public education her entire adult life.
As a teacher, substitute teacher, preschool coordinator, and volunteer in Tucson, she worked towards equitable and anti-racist education for more than 40 years. In her own words, she requested the above information be included because "that is where I expended a great deal of my energy for more than 25 years after raising children. I also felt compelled to advocate for 'disadvantaged' (hate the term) students, those who arrived at school with English as a second language, those who arrived at kindergarten with little spoken language at all, those who arrived at school with none or few of the concepts they could be evaluated on - numbers, shapes, colors, etc. Through no fault of their own, those who worked hard, did well, took advanced placement courses in high school, but then could not afford fees to take AP or other exams and lost out, deserved better."
In later life, Barb moved to the Twin Cities area to be close to family as she lived with Alzheimer's disease.
