Alba Frascarelli was born and raised in Italy, where she started her career in Archeology after earning her Master’s degree in Classics and Mediterranean Archeology at the University of Perugia. Her passion for languages and travel led her to accept a position as visiting scholar at the Ruth Patrick Science Educational Center (University of South Carolina) in spring of 2000, where she developed a project called “You be the archeologist” for kids K- 5/8. She met UA Regents’ Professor, David Soren, while attending a conference in the US, a connection that led to the creation of the Arizona in Orvieto study abroad program in Orvieto, Italy, which launched in Fall 2002. Since the first cohort of 21 students, Alba has worked tirelessly with University of Arizona colleagues to offer high-impact student programming in Italy. Alba’s welcoming presence, kindness and compassion have helped shape the study abroad experience of over 2000 students. We are grateful to Alba for her unwavering dedication to student support and cultural understanding.
