On behalf of Agnese Nelms Haury Program in Environment & Social Justice
"The Women of Haury" who were there at the start of the program were honored at the 10-year anniversary dedication event for Mrs. Haury's Garden on October 11, 2024. These women are honored for their vision, leadership and work in environment, social justice and Indigenous resilience.
Ms. Barnett served as a Trustee of the Haury Estate and on the Haury Program DAF Board since its formation. She is an Arizona native who was born in Flagstaff and moved to Tucson as a child. She attended Santa Rita High School, Pima College, and the University of Arizona. Ms. Barnett married Robbie Barnett, and together they raised a blended family. She has worked in retail and pipeline construction, and owned a long-haul trucking company and a construction company.
Ms. Barnett first met Mrs. Haury in the late 1980s when she accepted a position as a part-time bookkeeper and became Mrs. Haury’s trusted friend and advisor. While working for Mrs. Haury and in the contracting business, Ms. Barnett took on the challenge of attending nursing school. Her nursing training later equipped Barnett to serve as Mrs. Haury’s guardian, a responsibility that she fulfilled superbly and lovingly. Ms. Barnett continued as a registered nurse providing home health care services during the COVID pandemic. She now is retired and enjoys hunting, camping, and spending time with her family.
