Alma Blanche Long Sigman
Alma Sigma was my grandmother. She was born in Indiana in 1901, survived the 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic. She was married Roy Sigman, a NYC Orphan Train child who was adopted into a farming family outside of Chicago. He was in the Navy and stationed in Detroit where the two met at a fair. They were wed in 1919, and Alma bore 5 children (four girls - who also have their bricks in this Plaza. and one son). Katherine Newall, June Butterfield, Marie Shearn and Delores Brown. Her last child was born just before the Wall Street Crash and Depression. There were many stories about the struggles to raise five children in the Depression. Roy died in the early 1950's, and she then devoted her time to Unity Church, and her family. She and her daughter Marie moved to Green Valley in 1986. She is survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
