Susie Bowers

Birthday: 1959
Susan (Susie) Bowers was born in Washburn, Wisconsin and was raised in the state of Illinois. In 1986 Susie decided to leave the chilly Midwest and move to Tucson to be closer to her brother as well as to seek new opportunities. In November 1994 Susie started her career at the University of Arizona and has worked for various departments around campus such as Career Services, New Student Orientation, Executive Office of the President, College of Engineering and most recently the Office of Admissions and Enrollment Management and Student Affair Advancement. As Susie has served the University of Arizona for twenty-three years her dedication for her hard work did not go unnoticed. In 2002 she received the William Primm Cosart Prize from the College of Engineering and Mines for her immense contributions for improving the long-term effectiveness of the college, and in 2007 she received the Staff Award for Excellence.
One of Susie’s biggest accomplishment during her time at the University of Arizona was her efforts in spearheading the Engineering Student Ambassador Program back in 1996. Susie has served as a mentor for many Engineering Ambassadors who have gone through the program. However, she has kept in contact with Engineering Ambassadors outside of academia and has had the privilege to see them grow as young professionals, get married and have babies. Needless to say that her pride and joy has been being able to work with so many students, and seeing them grow in different stages of life.
Throughout the years Susie has found that the best part about working for this institution is the people she has crossed paths within her multiple roles on campus. Not only did she enjoy the company of others, but she also enjoyed the campus itself. Her favorite spot on campus is the Old Main area, but more specifically she enjoys the fountain by Old Main. There are also a couple of really important lessons she learned during her time on campus, which she always shared the most important one with most individuals “Don’t wear flip-flops in the Student Union Memorial Center when it’s raining.” Susie Bowers has inspired many individuals during her time here at the University of Arizona. Not only has she been an incredible mentor to students, but she has also been an extraordinary colleague. Susie’s outstanding efforts in the workplace are admirable and inspiring.
