REBECCA (BECKI) GERRETTIE

On August 25, 2018, the University of Arizona and Housing & Residential Life lost a dear member of its family. Rebecca (Becki) Gerrettie suffered a long, but brave battle with pancreatic cancer.

Rebecca Lynn Gerrettie was born April 18, 1962 in Tucson, Arizona. While growing up, she had a love for rodeo and showing horses. She graduated from Sahuarita High School in 1980 where she participated in the swim team and FFA.

Becki enjoyed the simple things in life. She chose to live her life in the moment. Most of all she loved time spent with her family, friends and her two dogs, Sadie and Bailey. She was also a very passionate Green Bay Packers fan. Becoming a grandmother was something that brought much happiness and joy in her life. She cherished every moment spent with her granddaughter Brycelynn. She is now watching over a second grandchild, Hunter.

If you knew Becki, you remember her amazing personality and spirit. She was a remarkable and strong woman; a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She was honest and loyal, brave and determined. She would stand up for things she believed in and wasn’t afraid to speak up. She would always light up the room with a big smile and a greeting or hug to all.

In 2006, she began working at the University of Arizona, 14 of those years spent in Housing & Residential Life (student housing). She was famous for putting out many fires with the parents and students living in the dorms. Becki always helped make any process go smoothly. She even directed traffic for Student Move-In one year, and no one was allowed to go the wrong way on Becki’s watch!

Becki became ill in 2017 and took a leave of absence from work to focus on her health. She fought though radiation and chemotherapy, but unfortunately she lost her battle with pancreatic cancer on August 25, 2018 at Casa De La Luz with her husband Rich and children by her side.

Rebecca Lynn (Becki) has left behind her loving husband, Rich, her children, Christina, Johnny and Nicole, and grandchildren, Brycelynn and Hunter. Also, her parents, Roger and Kathy and siblings, Kelli and Erik.

In honor of Becki’s life and her dedication to the University of Arizona, especially Housing & Residential Life, her coworkers contributed towards an engraved paver at the Woman’s Plaza of Honor. We felt she was deserving of this recognition and to be among many other remarkable women who are also honored in this plaza. Becki’s spirit will live on within those who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed and will be forever be in our hearts.
