Sue Ferguson

Nurse Clinical Leader Yoga Teacher Yoga Therapist Healer Writer and Scuba Diver Sue Ferguson was an all-around Renaissance woman with an enormous heart boundless energy contagious enthusiasm and a zest for life. She was a person who knew what she wanted in life and actually achieved it. A graduate of Chestnut Hill College School of Nursing and William Carey University Sue received her RN and BSN degrees. She found her passion for Emergency/Trauma Nursing early in her career and worked in that field for 40 years. Her nursing career began in Philadelphia at Hahnemann Hospital. She then moved to New Orleans where she worked in the ER at Touro Infirmary. Returning to her roots in Pennsylvania in 1987 she worked at the Lehigh Valley Medical Center for 5 years. Finally she and her husband John and children Katie and Keith moved to Tucson. There Sue worked as an Emergency Room Nurse and a Clinical Leader at the University of Arizona Medical Center. During her 23 years at UMC Sue was a fierce and loyal advocate for her patients her colleagues and her staff. Sue was also a certified yoga instructor who began teaching in 1987. She was a lead faculty member at the Yoga Connection in Tucson where she trained aspiring yoga teachers in anatomy and physiology yoga biomechanics and safety taught pre-natal yoga as well as served on the board of directors for over 20 years. For 12 years Sue was the creative partner with Donna Rabuck at the Center for the Sacred Feminine where she taught women's yoga at seasonal playshops and weekend retreats and took the name "Shakti Sue" representing her playful inexhaustible positive energy. Sue also completed her studies as a certified Yoga Therapist and founded La Mariposa Therapeutic Yoga. Sue loved teaching yoga to many different groups: medical professionals children teens seniors expectant mothers women scuba divers individuals dealing with illness injuries and surgery and all those seeking radiant health. She was a gifted yoga teacher who inspired others to pursue and achieve their own goals and dreams. Sue was also an avid scuba diver. Fascinated by the world that exists under the sea she and her grown children and friends took many dive trips together. She enjoyed diving in Mexico Honduras Turks and Caicos and Belize. Sue also spent hundreds of hours writing her book Yoga and Scuba Diving: The Perfect Marriage intuitively recognizing that yoga could be used to enhance scuba divers' skills and diving experiences. An animal lover who rescued many animals and became their mom Sue even taught yoga to dogs and their owners which she called "Doga Yoga" and donated proceeds to the animal organization Tucson Cold Wet Noses. She was also an advocate for the environment and an unashamed tree hugger. In addition Sue was a poet a writer an artist a traveler an adventurer a natural born leader and a dancer. Above all Sue was a loving wife and mother a devoted sister a beloved friend and a visionary woman.
