Vinnie Campbell Ward
Honored on the Native American Women's Arch by the Tonto Apache Tribe. Vinnie was born in 1942 at Rye Arizona to the late Martha & George Campbell. Born of the Dilzhe'e people. Her children: Wally Davis Jr. Michael and Melissa Ward. Spouse: Jameson Ward Vinnie worked at Payson Head Start as a teacher's aide and was a member of the Payson Junior Women's Club. Vinnie served as the first secretary for Tonto Apache Tribe working with her brother Melton 'Chief' Campbell the Tribe's first tribal chairman. She was known for her work and dedication to keep the Apache culture and tradition alive among the Tonto Apache children. She started the first Apache Crown Dance group in the Payson area. She was passionate about the Apache children achieving their educational goals. She devoted her time coordinating tribal gatherings and functions to maintain unity among the people. She passed away in 1978 at the age of 35 at the Old Camp. She was preceded in death by two brothers Larry and Billy Joe Campbell and her parents. She was a strong and beautiful Apache woman whose legacy lives on. She will never be forgotten.
