Juliette Moore Director of the Department of Campus Recreation The University of Arizona 1997-2010 Juliette Moore's energy enthusiasm indomitable spirit and passion for life in general and campus recreation in particular are qualities that set a great example for the staff and students who worked for and used the services provided by the Department of Campus Recreation during her tenure here at the UA. On a professional level Juliette's work as the leader of the Department of Campus Recreation has been focused on cooperation and collaboration. She has been especially committed to the wellbeing of students always communicating with and relating very well to students and becoming a mentor and guide to many of them. Juliette has also been a great spokesperson for health and wellness being very passionate about campus recreation and her belief in the importance of physical activity to health and wellness and that campus recreation services contribute to the health and wellbeing of those who live learn and work in the campus community. This passion and belief has led to her work in enhancing recreational facilities on this campus including the magnificent addition to the SRC that opened in January 2010. In addition, she has been a significant force and influence in the initiation and sustaining of the Well University initiative. Her influence on the field of campus recreation and wellness has extended to the national level as well. She is a Past President of the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) and former Past President's Representative on the NIRSA Board of Directors and she served for three years as a faculty member for the Recreational Sports Management School for NIRSA. On a personal level Juliette exemplifies a person who has a spirit and life goal of serving others. She demonstrated her particular compassion for youth and willingness to give of herself not only through her work with Campus Rec but also through her involvement with such activities as: - Wildcat Welcome a program Juliette began here at the UA and that has developed under her leadership into a wonderful program to support incoming students with their initial transition to the UA - the Well-U initiative a grass roots effort to improve the health and wellness of everyone in the UA community - at the UA's Newman Center and - in the Tucson community through her work with Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Her volunteer work with Big Brothers and Big Sisters led to her receiving their national "Hero In Our Midst" award in October of 2006. Juliette brought honesty integrity concern for others passion for wellness and a strong work ethic to her work here at the UA. She had a tremendous impact on the Department of Campus Recreation the Division of Student Affairs The University of Arizona our Tucson community and beyond during her time at the UA. Her contributions to our community and the caring and supportive colleague and friend she has been to many here at the UA will be fondly remembered.
