Doris Jefferies Ford
Doris Jefferies Ford Ph.D. was able to "break the glass ceiling" for minorities and women during different points in her career. At the University of Arizona, she was the first African American to be part of the Executive Branch serving as Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs and Affirmative Action Officer (1985-1988). She supervised the salary equity research recommended salary adjustments published the results and advised the Provost and President of needed policy changes to promote equity among her other accomplishments. For her advocacy Doris received recognition awards from the University Faculty Women's Association and was named a Phenomenal Woman by the African American Alumni Association. Other "firsts" include Court Psychologist for the Pima County Juvenile Court Center Dean of Students at Harvard University's School of Education and Assistant Vice Chancellor at Pima Community College. Faculty positions in Counseling Psychology and Education were held at Boston University Indiana University in Bloomington Atlanta University and Pima Community College. Doris is originally from Detroit Michigan where she earned her undergraduate and master's degrees from Wayne State University and her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. She is married to Charles Ford Ed.D. stepmother to three and has five grandchildren. She has resided in Tucson since 1976. Honored on the African American Women's Arch.
