Diana Liverman
Diana Liverman is director of the Environmental Change Institute (ECI) at Oxford University and holds a university chair in environmental science in the School of Geography within the Oxford University Centre for the Environment. Prior to joining the ECI she was director of the Center for Latin American Studies and professor of geography and regional development at The University of Arizona. Her research has focused on environmental change and policy including climate change and its impacts the social causes and consequences of land use change and environmental management in the context of globalization. Her current interests include work on geographies of the new carbon economy neo-liberalism and the environment making climate science and forecasts more useful to stakeholders differentiating the geographies of land use change in Mexico understanding environmental problems and governance on the U.S.-Mexico border and theorizing vulnerability to global change. Liverman served as chair of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences Committee on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change and as chair of the Latin American Studies Association Environment section; co-chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Inter-American Institute for Global Change; and a member of advisory committees for NASA NOAA and the U.S. National Center for Atmospheric Research. She is a member of editorial boards of the Annual Review of Environment and Resources Global Environmental Change Annals of the Association of American Geographers Climatic Change and the past editor of the Journal of Latin American Geography. She holds degrees in geography from University College London University of Toronto and UCLA. She is author of more than 40 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters appearing in such journals as Annals of the Association of American Geographers Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society Annual Review of Environment and Resources Climate Research Climatic Change Environmental Management Food Policy Global Environmental Change Human Organization International Journal of Climatology Journal of Climate Journal of Environmental Management Journal of Geography Natural Resources Journal and Professional Geographer. She is co-author with Sallie Marston and Paul Knox of the textbook World Regions in Global Context: People Places and Environment (Prentice Hall 2008 3rd. ed.).
