Mae (Friedman) Lernor was born and raised in New York by immigrant parents. Her family was poor and upon completion of high school Mae went right to work to ease the burden on her family. She married young had 3 children and was always determined that her children would be college educated. Her hope was that her children would have an easier life than she knew. While Mae's children were growing up she helped support her family by working as a secretary. Mae and her husband moved the family out west to Tucson in 1972. At that time Mae took a secretarial position at The University of Arizona. She was a valued employee with a strong work ethic and received the distinguished University of Arizona Staff Award of Excellence in 1990. When Mae retired after 25 years at the University she had worked her way up to an administrative position assisting the Dean of Architecture. We are happy to say that all three of her children completed college and fulfilled their mother's dream. Her three children are Michael Rubin Donna Goldberg and William Rubin.
