Evelyn Jones Kirmse
Evelyn Jones Kirmse was born in 1900 in Baltimore, Maryland and died in 1986 in Tucson, Arizona after a life of service and dedication to education. She was a high school teacher Dean of Women at the University of Arizona a member of the Arizona Board of Regents from 1951 to 1959 and Special Assistant to University President John Schaefer as well as being active in her church in the political area and in the Tucson community. In 1980 she received an honorary degree from The University of Arizona. Evelyn was a true role model for everyone who came into contact with her. In a time when the role of women was rather tightly defined Evelyn became a leader and a doer. She had a great deal of influence on young people at the University of Arizona for many years and her positive and realistic approach to life served to inspire many to achieve their highest potential. During Evelyn's tenure as Special Assistant to the President it was amazing how many people sought her advice on political personal and educational matters, and she was always there for anyone who needed a helping hand. Evelyn left behind her son Jim as well as many friends of all ages and her wit wisdom and ability to put things in the proper perspective are still missed by those who came to love and admire her. She epitomizes the kind of person who deserves a place in the Women's Plaza of Honor.
