Barbara Monroe
Barbara Monroe RN MS CCRN was a Clinical Assistant Professor the University of Arizona. She joined the UA nursing faculty in fall 2001. Prior to that she taught at the University of Phoenix and also had worked at UMC as a clinical nurse educator in critical care. Professor Barbara Monroe was tragically killed on October 28 2002 by a nursing student at the University of Arizona campus. According to a statement by the Arizona Health Sciences Center She was considered a role model for other clinical faculty and was valued and well respected by her peers. Monroe completed her BSN at Mankato State University Mankato Minnesota in 1980 and her MSN from Arizona State University in 1993 where she was named Outstanding Critical Care Graduate Student. She worked in the staff development department at the University Medical Center in Tucson where she specialized in critical care education and in the cardiovascular unit at University Medical Center. She was part of the University of Phoenix faculty from 1995 to 2001 when she joined the faculty of the University of Arizona College of Nursing to teach in the critical care course. Monroe had published in the Critical Care Nurse and had presented at the annual meeting of the American College of Cardiology. In 1999 she was honored as one of Tucson Fabulous Fifty Nurses. Monroe grew up reading Cherry Aimes student nurse books and was always fascinated by the history of nursing; she collected vintage nursing equipment. She loved teaching and was devoted to her students and their development as future nurses. She was noted for her wit and sense of humor and was the catalyst for a wide social network of friends and family. --College of Social & Behavioral Sciences and Professor Kari McBride
