Jean L. Wiener
Jean her parents and brother came to Tucson in the 1940s. She attended the U of A where she obtained her BA in Education. She later went on to achieve a Master of Science with a major in rehabilitation counseling. Jean was a social worker at Jewish Family Services for 10 years and then worked at Pima Council on Aging for over 20 years where she provided education concerning aging services elder-care counseling and coordinated intergenerational programs. Upon Jean's retirement an annual award the Jean Wiener Excellence in Case Management was created to honor her long and prestigious career. Upon her retirement Jean served as the chair of the Governor's Advisory Council on Aging; served on the United Way Impact Council as chair of the Council of Senior Citizens Organizations and served also on the boards of Old Fort Lowell Living at Home Friends of the Library and Caregiver Consortium Board. Her interests were many: she was an avid U of A basketball fan bridge player and hiker enjoyed ushering and attending theater productions and loved Native America art. Jean was a devoted mother grandmother and friend. Her legacy of love caring giving understanding tenacity and spirit are the very special gifts she leaves to those who shared her life. Small of stature Jean was a dynamo of ideas and energy. Her experience and expertise were shared with professionals in many fields helping to influence decisions which govern our social service system. Thousands were helped by this woman who dedicated her life to improving the lives of others. Jean Wiener will not be remembered for what she had but rather by what she lovingly gave to the Tucson community.
