Lois Prince Holland
Lois was born in New Orleans and raised in Memphis Tennessee where she attended and graduated from Memphis Technical High School. She married W.W. (Whitey) Holland in 1944 and moved to Douglas Arizona in 1946. Within three years the family was completed with the addition of two daughters Judy and Jane. After raising her daughters Lois returned to school to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher. She received her BA from the University of Arizona and began teaching K-8 in the Douglas Public Schools in 1969. Lois continued her studies at the U of A and received her M.Ed. in 1974. She taught in the Douglas area until her retirement in 1983. Lois has actively served her community all her life volunteering with the Food Bank the YWCA scholarship program and as an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Douglas. Following the death of her husband Lois moved to Tucson and continued her service through the Tucson Woman's Club helping provide scholarship opportunities for young women. Her love for and involvement with family bridge and books keeps her active in retirement. Her friends and family are inspired by Lois's wisdom courage and spirituality. Her passion for learning teaching and for helping others pursue educational opportunities is especially fitting for recognition as a woman who has influenced the lives of those around them.
