Marjorie Weisfeld
Our mother and nana has always been an inspiration and therefore we feel privileged to pay tribute to her in the Women's Plaza of Honor. Marjorie Henderson Weisfeld was born in London England on February 4, 1920. In England she was a bookkeeper and the dressmaker to Lady Fermoy (Princess Diana's grandmother). She was offered a position as traveling seamstress for the Queen Mother but turned it down because it was not adventurous enough. She ventured by boat across the Atlantic Ocean to work in Canada and upon her return on the Queen Mary she met Morris Weisfeld who asked her to dance and then to marry him. They were married August 3, 1952, in New York. She lived in the Bronx NY raising her daughter while volunteering as a Girl Scout leader and in the school system. She organized a beautifying project planting flowers in a neighborhood park. She performed as well as taught many her seamstress skills. Not forgetting her roots, she joined the Daughters of the British Empire organization. She returned to bookkeeping when her daughter entered high school. Marjorie and Morris moved to Tucson in 1970 upon Morris' retirement. She worked for twelve years as a bookkeeper and head of personnel and Handmaker Home. She continued her affiliation with the Daughters of the British Empire holding teas and raising funds for their home in Sierra Madre California. She was also a member of the European Multi-Ethnic Alliance of Tucson. She has made and indelible mark on her daughter son-in-law and grandchildren whom she always had time for. Her adventurous soul family dedication giving heart and resilient determination has left a deep-rooted seed in them as well as others.
