Rosa L. Edwards
Rosa Lee Morris Edwards was born in Goliad Texas and was married to Thomas E. Edwards Jr. also a native Texan. Their two daughters Effie A. Edwards (Harris) and Othella M. Edwards (Daniels) were born in Texas as well. The family moved to Douglas Arizona where their three sons were born: John A. Edwards Morris O. Edwards and Joseph L. Edwards. Rosa L. Edwards had been a teacher in Texas and she used her teaching skills to read poems to her children and to teach all of them to read before they entered school in the first grade. All of the family were members of Mr. Olive Baptist Church in Douglas Arizona. When the family moved to Tucson Arizona in 1946 all family members joined the Mr. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Edwards was active in the Women's Chorus and the Missionary Society. Mr Edwards was a deacon. Rosa L. Edwards was a faithful worker in the Baptist Missionary Societ at the local state and national levels. She was head of her local missionary circle a leader and officer of the Mission Department of the Paradise Baptist State Convention and a Missionary Leader in the National Baptist Convention. Mrs. Edwards traveled extensively throughout the state of Arizona organizing and assisting in the development of missionary groups within many Baptist churches. Her purpose was to promote evangelism by working with missions to help those in need and to bring them to Christ. Because of her many years of faithful service all who knew her agreed that she was truly a living symbol of the great commission from the scripture in Matthew chapter 28 verses 18 and 19: Go ye therefore and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father of the Son and of the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and lo I am with you alway even unto the end of the world. Amen. Rosa L. Edwards loving wife mother missionary worker and friend to many passed away on February 4 1986 at the age of 86.
