Ruth Dickstein
Ruth Dickstein born in Bayonne, NJ in 1941 and grew up in Jersey City. She received a BA and MA in history from the University of Michigan and MLS from The University of Arizona. She is married to Stephen S. Dickstein MD and has two children Wendy and Jonathan and four precious grandchildren. In 1977 she began working at the University of Arizona Library. In 1982 she was asked to work with the women's studies program for a summer institute with faculty who would integrate women's studies into the undergraduate courses they taught. Since 1982 Ms. Dickstein has become a specialist in women's studies librarianship and was recognized for her research and service in that area by being awarded the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Women's Studies Section Career Achievement award for 2003. Ms. Dickstein has published two reference books in women's studies Women in LC's Terms and Index to Anthologies in Women's Studies. She has also authored numerous articles relating to women's studies library instruction and web design and chaired the ACRL Women's Studies Section from 2004-05. For many years Ms. Dickstein has also served as library liaison with the history department where she has been able to work with undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of innovative instructional activities. She has presented at several meetings of the American Historical Association Pacific Coast Branch on library research and history.
