Linda Loomis
Dr. Loomis earned her PhD in 1980 from the University of Arizona. Her master's degree was completed in 1978 and her bachelor's degree in 1971 all in Family and Consumer Science from the University of Arizona. Her career as an educational professional began in 1971 at Flowing Wells High School where she taught child development and culinary arts for seven years. From 1978-1984 Dr. Loomis worked as a university teacher educator at the University of Arizona Northern Arizona State University and Arizona State University. From 1984 to 2004 Linda Loomis was a central office school administrator for Amphitheater Schools and Tucson Unified School District. In 2004 she retired from a career in education and was elected to public office for a four year term on the Amphitheater Public Schools' Governing Board. In 1988 Linda was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the field of education with the Arizona Visible Difference Award and in 1990 she was named as the Outstanding Vocational Administrator for Arizona. The University of Arizona awarded Dr. Loomis with the University's Distinguished Citizen Award in 1996. Linda Loomis graduated from the University of Arizona in 1971 with a bachelor of science degree in Family and Consumer Science. From 1971-1978 she taught child development and culinary arts at Flowing Wells High School. For the next six years Linda worked as a university teacher educator at the University of Arizona Northern Arizona State University and Arizona State University. During this time period she had two children. Brenda Boone Loomis was born April 19, 1979, and Scott Jeffrey Loomis was born March 14, 1981. In 1980 she completed a PhD from the University of Arizona with a major in secondary education. From 1984 to 2004 Linda worked for Amphitheater Public Schools and Tucson Unified School District as a central office school administrator. In June of 2004 she retired from education and was elected in November of 2004 to serve a four-year term on the Amphitheater Public Schools Governing Board. Dr. Loomis has a long history of service to the children in the Tucson community through her work on youth related boards. These boards include the following areas: Assistance League Southern Arizona Academic Decathlon Workforce Investment Youth Council Tech-Prep School-to-Work and Jobs for Arizona's Graduates. In 1988 Linda was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the field of education with the Arizona Visible Difference Award and in 1990 she was named the Outstanding Vocation Administrator for Arizona. The University of Arizona awarded Dr. Loomis with the University's Distinguished Citizen Award in 1996. Dr. Alex Mazerski spouse nominated Linda Loomis to the Women's Plaza of Honor to acknowledge her retirement from public school education and to thank her for giving 33 years to Tucson's youth.
