Marguerite Hesketh never dreamed when she left Wells College to marry our father in 1940 that their life together would take them to the jungles of Colombia; Bombay India; Manila Philippines; Melbourne Australia; Tokyo Japan; and finally Paris France with forays to the Middle East and Africa. During that time she raised us and our brother (d. 1962) managed a household entertained visitors local politicians and business people as well as members of the United States government while providing an example of a steel magnolia with a gentle kind core. Our mother known as Miggy recently celebrated her 83rd birthday and the birth of her third great grandchild. We honored her for the steadfast love and companionship she provided to our father until his death in 1999 and for her caring devotion to her ever-expanding family. Following our parents' retirement to Tucson in 1972 she became involved in activities ranging from bridge to genealogy to crafts and developed a large circle of friends who have sustained her as she has sustained them. To continue the kind of service work she provided to organizations such as the Philippine-American Club the Japanese-American Club and the Australian-American Club she volunteered for several years on the staff of The West a Tucson philanthropic organization. She instilled in all of us the value of education. She established an endowed scholarship and an endowed History Department award at the University of Arizona and continues to quietly support a variety of activities that reflect her humanity. We cherish her presence in our lives. --Jennifer Hesketh Avil's and Sharon Hesketh Lyons
