Janet Bingham

Janet E. Bingham Ph.D. vice president for University Advancement has more than 22 years of administrative experience at the University of Arizona and is the first woman to hold the position of vice president for UA Advancement/University Relations. A member of a pioneer Tucson family she also earned her bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees at the UA. Prior to becoming vice president in 1998 Dr. Bingham was assistant vice president for health sciences at the Arizona Health Sciences Center (AHSC) where she oversaw government relations institutional advancement community relations media relations publications and other efforts for the UA Colleges of Medicine Nursing Pharmacy and Public Health; University Medical Center; and University Physicians Healthcare (formerly University Physicians Inc.). Prior to that she served as director of the AHSC Office of Public Affairs. She joined the University in 1983 working as a writer editor and then national news coordinator in the Office of Public Information. As vice president for University Advancement Dr. Bingham is responsible for strategies to more effectively promote the University throughout the state and beyond. She coordinates all activities involving external constituencies including individual friends and benefactors of the University neighbors and the general public news media representatives corporations foundations government officials at all levels and community service organizations. She oversees State Relations Federal Relations Community Relations University Communications Public Affairs University Events Marketing and Corporate Relations. She also coordinates university relationships with the University of Arizona Alumni Association and the University of Arizona Foundation. Dr. Bingham was recognized as one of Tucson's Ten Most Powerful Women by KGUN-TV Tucson's ABC affiliate. She serves on the Eller College of Management's National Board of Advisors the Steele Children's Research Center Advisory Board the UA Foundation Board of Directors various community boards and UA committees and currently chairs the Campaign Arizona (the UA's $1 billion fundraising campaign) Executive Committee. The Bingham family arrived in Tucson in 1893 and has been in the cattle ranching industry since. Janet continues to serve as the corporate secretary of the family's Bingham Sacaton Ranch Inc. Before joining the UA Janet was an associate news producer at KVOA-TV Tucson's NBC affiliate and an English and theatre arts teacher at San Manuel and Flowing Wells High Schools.
