Consuelo Taylor de Murrieta
Mujer Madre y Mas.. .. .. ..(Woman Mother and More) Connie was born in Santa Cruz County located in southeastern Arizona to Nellie Murrieta de Hughes and Salvador Murrieta on June 2 1921. She was the eldest and surviving sibling of three children. Her brother Ernesto (Chacho) died at five years of age and her sister Evita died at three both from pneumonia. The death of her siblings was a constant sorrow in her life. Connie attended Tucson High School and graduated from Lamson Business College in Tucson Arizona. She married Richard Taylor of Nogales Arizona and their union produced two daughters Patricia and Giraldine of Tucson Arizona. Although their marriage was short-lived their love for each other continued throughout their lives. As a single woman with two children our mother began to build a new life with the help of her mother. She joined the Women's Air Corp during WWII attended basic training in Mobile Alabama and eventually was honorably discharged. After the service she was employed with Vultee Consolidated Aircraft until she was recruited as manager of the Peoples Department Store with locations in Tucson and Nogales Arizona. Our remembrance of our mother is that she was artistic musically talented and independent in judgment and action generous in spirit humorous graceful wise and beautiful in many ways. Most of all she was most loving and always forgiving. Our mother was a remarkable woman whose actions and words made an incredible difference in our lives as she guided us on our journey of life. Unfortunately her life was prematurely cut short at 52 years of age. She lives on in our memory as a daughter of a pioneer family a wife a mother a friend a rodeo queen a veteran a businessperson and a master of cuisine extraordinaire. Our mother Connie Taylor was a woman ahead of her generation as a working mother and an independent accomplished woman.
