Ann Kelley Boice was born in Flagstaff, Arizona on May 7, 1932, the daughter of Victor H. and Mary Pinckard Kelley. She married Fred Tait Boice on December 23, 1952, and has five children: Henry Kelley, Mariann Tait, Jennifer Lynn, Fred Tait, Jr. and Margaret Ellen.

She received her B.A. in Education from the University of Arizona in 1953 and her MA in Education in 1971. She taught elementary school until her retirement in 1992.
